They say that a dog is a man's best friend and without even thinking about it too much you know it is true. Having a pet is a wonderful thing. As children, when we are desperate for a pet our parents usually said something like, 'you can only have a pet if you take care of it, that means feeding it and taking it for walks'.
For a child this is a big responsibility and they are likely to forget once in a while, but a pet can be an excellent way to teach a child how to be responsible and care for something. If you are seriously worried about the pet then you can always take out some pet insurance, like rabbit insurance.
But really it isn't difficult to see the benefits of having a pet. For the elderly it has been argued that having cats or dogs in old age homes can improve overall morale and petting the animals can reduce the pain in the hands from arthritis.
Stroking the animals actually helps the patients, and of course having that extra company means that they are never really alone. Pets are really wonderful.
We let them into our homes and our hearts and just like they take care of us we need to take care of them. This means feeding and walking them and taking them for their shots, no matter what age you are.
